The eve, before the eve, before the day...
Yep...here it is, the eveing before Christmas Eve. After today, I can now hopefully enjoy the next few days, without feeling like I'm runnin' myself ragged. My Christmas shopping is done, and everything wrapped. Well..spoke too soon maybe. I have a pkg. for Eva from Moriah, but there's no way it will get to Australia before Christmas, so I'm not even going to bother to send it off till after then. Maybe then, with the postage not so rushed for the season, it will get there a little quicker. But, all the presents that go under the tree are wrapped, except for what Lee brings home! I know he's cookin' something up...I was up there yesterday...not sure if it's the necklace i told him I'd like, or what...guess we'll see.
I got all my grocery shopping done today too...for tomorrow night, and for some jello to take to Lebanon on Monday. it is difficult to try and cook big dinners like we use to....on my mom's end, anyway. When we lived in Lebanon, it was no big deal for her to do some, me some, my Granny some, and it wasn't a ton of stuff for just one person. But...my mom doesn't have the time now, with takin' care of my Dad...and Dad can't help like he use to...and would still love to. He is a fabulous cook...and makes wonderful homemade breads, and christmas stollens. He learned it from his mother...who of course, made it in the Swedish way. But now, we're over 2 hrs. away, and it isn't always easy to try and pack alot of food...which Landon and I did for Thanksgiving. Mom did potatos and few things, but we brought the majority. I was always afraid that I'd end up with our dinner all over the trunk of the car. lol. So...we are having the majority of our dinner catered. It will be delivered to my mom and dads house...at the specific time we want it. We are going to have to do mashed potatoes...it didn't include that or gravy, and we're going to do another veggie...and I am going to make my famous Redhot Jello. Thanksgiving, and Christmas just wouldn't be right without it. But, for $60, we get a 12lb. turkey, dressing, candied yams, greenbean cassarole, cranberry sauce, hot rolls, and 2 pies. Well....that's alot less than what we'd spend on groceries, not to mention the time involved preparing it, and then having to transport it. Mom and I are going to split the cost. I know I would have spent more than $30 had I cooked it! I know Landon doesn't think much of a "catered" dinner...for Thanksgiving, or christmas. But...that's the way he was raised...and so was I. And I am sooooooo thankful that my kids remember what it was like to have Thanksgivings, and Christmas' like that. Memories that can never be replaced!!! But, catered or not, we all know that it's not the food, or the way it's prepared, or who prepares it. It's that we are all together, on a day that means so much to us, and to so many others, world round. After all....Christmas is in our hearts!
It's about 10:00...Lee's still at work. It was 11:30 before he got home last night. I have a feeling it will be at least that late tonight. I wished it wouldn't, but I know they have a lot to get done, and time is slowly running out. The store is open tomorrow 12-3, so everything that has to be done for Christmas, has to be finished by then, in order for people to pick it up. I haven't talked to him today...I usually do at least once a day, but I know how busy they are. By now though, the store is closed, and doors locked, so they're not dealing with customers as well.
Well, tomorrow night Landon, Kenny, Mary, and Gabriel...and of course, they're bringing Moriah with them, will be coming over here, and we'll celebrate our Christmas eve together, and exchange presents. I'm not doing much cooking. I've got chips, and dip, and I'm going to make a big pot of chili, we're having hankey pankey...which is moriah's favorite, and bbq'd little smokies. Unfortunately, Amanda has to work...won't get off till almost 11. Now is that stupid, or what. She works at Movie Gallery, but you can't tell me that if someone wanted to rent a movie to watch, they could have done it earlier...rather than be open on a night when their employees would like to be with their families. She has to work Christmas day too, so she won't be able to go with us to Lebanon. From the time they get up, till about noon, when we're leaving, will be the only time she gets to spend with Landon, and the Kids, on Christmas day...until she gets off work late Monday night. Guess I'm really old fashioned that a way. I can understand gas stations, and restaurants...but a movie rental place....give me a break!
Well, guess I'll get outta here and give Lee a call...see if he's got any idea what time he's gonna be home. I got my house cleaned today, so I don't have much to do tomorrow, except throw my chili together...and my hankey pankey, later in the afternoon, and neither one of them will take too long, so I'm sure I'll be back here tomorrow to drop in and see what you've all been up to. I hope you all have a great evening!
Much love,
Lev
