November already?!
Wow...here it is, November 1. It's sooooo hard to believe. I don't know where this year has gone. Do you?? It is true, though, I've noticed, that the older I get, the faster each year seems to go by. I remember as a child, feeling like it took forever between all those special days that I enjoyed, Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving, CHRISTMAS...lol...I didn't ever think they'd get here again. Now, it seems like I just blink, and those times are here before I know it. Christmas NEVER got here this fast when I was a kid!!!
Well, it's back from Indiana, again,(and no, we're NOT done). We got home around 2:30 am Tuesday. It was so good to get home, and out of that car. 7 hours in a car can get very tiring. It was also a big big relief to be at home, knowing that we had arrived safely. Not more than 1 1/2 hrs. from home, we narrowly escaped being in what could have been a horrible accident. So...after having had to stop along the side of the road, flashers going, and calling 911...it sobers you up real fast, and you soon start thanking God above that He had His angels watching over you, and others that night. We were traveling on a bypass highway around St. Louis. It is good road, and cuts a bit of time off our trip, not to mention the hastle of St. Louis traffic, and having to make interstate exchanges. The speed limit is 60, and the traffic is always laid back. I had driven from Indianapolis to Effingham, IL, and from there, Lee took over and said he'd drive till we arrivved in Foristell, which is about 20 mins. west of St. Louis. Naturally, I had kinda been after him to watch his speed, reminding him every so often. On two different occasions, we had law enforcement pass us, and I'd remind him again, that it was a good thing he was going the speed limit. So, by the time we were traveling on 360...north of St. Louis, he was having no problems keeping the speed where it should be (he has a tendency to have a lead foot..lol). We're traveling along, listening to music, and I think I catch a glance of something up ahead, but really couldn't see, or make anything out. I almost said something to Lee, but continuing to look and not really seeing anything, I didn't say anything. Next thing I know, Lee says "what's that?"....and looking up, I'm starring at 4 tires, and the bottom of a vehicle!!!!!! Lee saw it just about the time I did....and swerved quickly to the right.... we only missed that truck by a couple of feet. Had Lee not swerved when he did...we would have been head first into the gas tank!!! We immediately pulled over....Lee ran toward the wreck, and I began to dial 911. When they answered, I immediately told them we were traveling west bound on Hi Way 370, and she asked if we were calling about the truck on it's side, in the middle of the road. I told her I could't tell if it was a truck, but that it was DEFINATELY on it's side in the middle of the road. She said that they had emergency personel on the way. I made my way over to where I could see 3 figures in the dark...Lee, one of them, I'm presuming. When I got there, and we found out that everyone was okay, it was such a big relief. It was a young man...probably in his early 20's...on his way to working a 3rd shift, after having just left another job. He fell asleep at the wheel, and ran his pickup into the concrete divider down the middle of the highway, flipping his truck and landing it on it's side in the middle lane of a 3 lane highway. By the time we left...maybe 20 mins. or so, flares had been put out to warn oncoming traffic....(wish they'd had them out when we came upon the scene!!!). Lee and I got into the car, and we both breathed a big sigh of relief, and I just said "Thank you Jesus, for having angels all around this accident tonight." For miles we talked about what tragedy could have come out of that incident that night. Not just for Lee and I, but for that young man, his parents, family and friends, and how it could have change their entire lives. We just have so much to be thankful for!
We had a safe and fun Halloween. Hope you guys did. I didn't have quite as many trick-or-treaters as I thought I would, but, more than we had where we use to live. So, I have plently of candy left over to munch on for awhile! Landon and Amanda went to Glasgow, where Amanda's family lives, and they took the boys trick-or-treating, had their annual chili supper at Amanda's Aunt Elouise's house, then drove around the town, that is locally famous for the yard decorations. Once they got back to Columbia, they stopped here, arriving a little after 9. The kids looked great in their costumes...Kenny was a Ninja Turtle...Gabriel, a pitstop machanic, and Mary....well, she was just the most adorable little flower I've ever seen!!! I've got pictures to share with you, but can't get the camera to work. I'm hoping it's just dead batteries. It was working last night. But, if I don't get them included in this email, I'll do it as soon as I can get the thing working.
It's gonna be a lean week this week for me, as far as work goes. I already knew that I didn't have to work Tues/Halloween, but was expecting to be back at work today. But, a little after 9, Aaron called saying that he had not yet left St. Louis, and didn't know what time he was going to get out of there. It will just depend how late he calls as to whether I choose to go in. Last week, he didn't get back into town till 5:30, then wanted to know if I wanted to come over and work for awhile. No....not that late....so I just told him that we had already made supper plans, plus I was in the middle of cooking. I was originally hired to work about 4 hrs. a day...10-2. One of the reasons I like this job, because it got me out early in the afternoon, to do things I needed, or make plans for later in the evenings. I wasn't hired to come in at 5:30....my work-day should be long done by then. Plus, if he is that concerned about getting books shipped, then he should plan on being back in time to do the work he knows he needs to do.
Well, I don't guess there's much else going on. Guess I'll just enjoying being lazy today, as long as I can anyway...unless the "boss" calls at a decent time. lol
Hope you all have a great day! Will talk to you all soon, I'm sure!
Much love,
Lev
p.s....poo...the camera still isn't working, so guess I'll have to send the pictures later.
oh...and the boss called, so I'll be going in about 1:45 to do shipping only, then he said I could go ahead and leave. So, hopefully, I'll be outta there by 3:00, and that shouldn't be too bad.
