More around Missouri

Well, here we are in SE Missouri. It is bordered by Illinois, Kentucky, Tennesee and Arkansas.
I will have to admit, that Lee is probably more informed on this area of Missouri, than I am. This was his old stompin' grounds during high school. Dexter, just about the center of the map, is where Lee graduated from high school. Dexter is also where my best friend in college was from. Ironically, when Lee and I started dating, and sharing our pasts with each other, learning about each other, we discovered that in high school, Lee use to date her sister. We thought that was a very strange coincidence. lol
South of Dexter, you come to Kennett, which lies about 4 miles from the Arkansas state line. Kennett is located in what is know as the "boot heel" of Missouri... as it takes on the appearance of a boot heel. DUH! LOL If anyone keeps up with todays music, you may have heard that this is where the singer Cheryl Crow is from. Kennett is where I was born, but unfortunately have no memory of it, as I was only 6 mos. old when my parents left there and moved to Lebanon. The church in Kennett was the first church my dad pastored after graduating from Theology Seminary.
Just south of Poplar Bluff, is the small town of Harviell....I have an online friend that lives here, but still have not been able to get to this area to meet her, unfortunately.
I'm ashamed that I can't remember this, but it was either in the musical "Showboat", or "The Music Man", that they sing a song about Cairo, Ill. You can see it just east of the Mississippi river, NE of Sikeston.
South of Sikeston, you see New Madrid. If you keep up with any earthquakes, you'll know that New Madrid, sits atop the New Madrid fault line, which has seen major quakes over the past 100 years. The quakes of 1811-1812, actually changed the course of the Mississippi river, and even made it flow in reverse for a time (link below)

Missouri's entire eastern state line is bordered by The Mississippi River...also know as "the big river" which is what it's name means, "the mighty Mississip", "old man river". I am proud to say that I do remember where you will hear that song..."Ole Man River", which is from the musical "Showboat"
Old Man River
from Showboat
Ol' man river. That ol' man river. He don't say nothin'But he must know somethin'Cause he just keeps rollin'He keeps rollin' along.Rollin' along.---He don't plant tatorsHe don't plant cotton.Them that plants 'em is soon forgotten. But ol' man riverHe keeps rollin' along.---You and meWe sweat and strain.Body all achin'And wracked with pain.Tote that barge.Lift that bale.Get a little drunkAnd you land in jail.-----I gets wearySick of tryin'I'm tired of livin'Feared of dyin'But ol' man riverHe's rollin' along.
Well, guess I'll run...got some stuff i wanna try and do today, and it's already 2...there won't be much of the day left, if I don't watch it...lol
Have a great day!
Much love,
Lev
