A long trip...but back home
Finally, after being at home for a couple of days, now, I've finally made it in to say Hi to everyone. I missed you all so much while we were away for our trip. Unfortunately, I didn't get to spend much time on the computer while we were there. Cindy is on dial up, so, I didn't spend much time on the internet, so as not to tie up her phone line. The 4 day trip was to be a bit of a vacation for us, but, as things usually go, there was much that we ended up doing that was a far cry from relaxing.
Other than visiting, one of our main goals for going was to try and see what the deal was with this motorcycle that Lee's cousin had for sale. Although we do have the bike, things sure didn't go as smoothly as we were hoping. The bike was not in running condition, nor did it have any plates, so Lee riding it back home was out of the question. Now, the only question that remained, was how do we get it home? We have no trailer hitch on our car, and that was appearing to be the only way we were going to be able to get the bike back to Missouri. So, most of the weekend was spent trying to find a solution to that problem. Finally, on Saturday, a trailer hitch was located, although, it sure wasn't in Indianapolis! Lee and his mom had to make a 90 mile drive Sunday morning, to a U-Haul location just outside Louisville, KY. It was the nearest location for the kind of trailer hitch we needed, considering that they no longer make a trailer hitch that will fit our car, with it being the age that it is. It is a 89'. Then, naturally, when we did get it back, it did not install as it should have...some holes not aligning up right. We did get the problem fixed, however. So, a small trailer was rented so we would have a way to get the bike home.
Our car had been working pretty good, but as you might suspect, no sooner had we started out, than it started overheating, not more than 45mins. from home. We came really close to just turning around and heading back home, almost afraid to start out on the 6-7 hr. drive, wondering if the car would make it. We were able to find some stuff to add to the radiator, and it did help out some with the overheating. It was bad enough that we were having to make this trip without AC, but now with the car overheating, it was even more miserable, as we had to keep the heater going to help keep the engine temp. down, so we wouldn't overheat to terribly. So, needless to say, that made for a pretty miserable and tense trip on the way down. We left Columbia, after stopping to fill the car with gas, and grabbing some supper, about 6:00, which wasn't as early as we were wanting to leave, but then again, better than if we'd had to wait for Lee to get off at 7. So, in the long run, the couple extra hours helped a bit. Then with the overheating problem, it took us almost 3 hours to get to St. Louis, when it should have taken up about 1 1/2 hr. We had to stop more often than we usually would have, to let the car cool off now and then, and finally arrived at Lee's mom's house around 4am. Naturally, we had to visit a little once we got there, but when we looked out the windows a little before 6, and could see the sun starting to come up, we figured we needed to try and get a little bit of rest. We were able to sleep till about 11, so at least we got a little bit of sleep.
We did get our car problems fixed...were able to find someone that could boil out, and clean the radiator. Also, Lee changed the oil on the car, ours, and Cindy's, while we were there. Between taking out radiator, changing oil, and having to install a trailer hitch, it seemed that Lee played "micky mechanic", the entire time he was there. I know he would have rather spent the time visiting. We were wanting to head out of Indy, no later than 5:00 on Sunday, preferably around 4, but found out that Lee's cousins, Craig, and Jerod, wouldn't be off work till 4, and Lee needed them to help him load the bike. Lee's other cousin, Chris, and her husband, Auther, wanted to take us all to lunch, we we all headed out a little before 2:00, to head to the restaurant. We had a wonderful lunch, and a great time visiting. Even though we now had the car working, the trailer hitch installed, and ready to go, the rest of the afternoon couldn't go without event. That seems to be impossible for the "morgan" family. Just as we were getting ready to leave the restaurant, just around 3:00, Cindy's cell rang. It was her mom, in hysterics, screaming, and crying that Jodie(her daughter) hadjust been robbed, while getting stuff out of her trunk, at the bank. She had things that she was going to put into a safety deposit box. Just as she was getting the stuff from the trunk, a man ran up behind her, grabed her arm and twisted it behind her, and demanded the box. I guess Jodie gave him a bit of a run for his money, as twice, she was able to thrown him off balance, and had him on the ground, but he eventually started to run, being followed by another guy in a van, who was also involved. All this was happening while Sue, Jodie's mom, was watching from the car. That's when she had called Cindy. When they finally did catch up with the two guys, they found Jodie's briefcase, with her things...presumably, undesterbed. The man that attacked Jodie, was also found to have a loaded gun on him. We had all left the restaurant, Lee and I on our way to pick up the trailer, while Cindy, Laura, and the restof them, headed to the bank to check on what was going on there. As if all this wasn't enough, while they are waiting for Sue, and Jodie to finishing talking to the police, at the bank, Cindy's cell rings again. This time it was her son, Craig, telling them that a dispatch had just come through the fire station (he's a fireman), that his wife, Linda, had been in a car accident. Someone ran a stop sign, and T-boned her. Ambulances were on the way, and Craig was headed to the scene of the accident, not even knowing what he was going to find there. As far as he knew, Linda had both of their children with her also. Thank God, that when Craig arrived, there were no serious injuries. The baby was at Linda's mom's, so it was just Andrew and her in the car. Andrew got a pretty nasty bumb on his head...and left quite a knot. Naturally, for precausions, they applied neck braces to both of them, and used back boards, incase of any spinal, or neck injuries. But, thankfully, they were both released from the hospital, after being observed for awhile. At that time, they were thinking that Jodie might have gotten her arm broke when that guy twisted it backwards so hard. But, when we were leaving, even though they'd had xrays done, drs. didn't believe that she had, just that it was severely bruised....but the results of the x rays hadn't come back yet. Lee talked to his mom last night, but I forgot to ask what they'd finally found out about her arms. Hopefully, it wasn't broke. So, as you can tell we had A LOT going on Sunday afternoon. It was just almost tooooo unbelievable, considering that all this happened within only about 30 mins. of each other. Needless to say, this was all going on about the time we had been planning to be loading bike, once Jerod and Craig were off work. Well, as you can imagine, the bike loading didn't go as planned, since Jerod and Craig were detained. By the time we had to try and arrange help to load the bike, and everyone had gotten back home, including Linda, and Andrew, and Jodie, and we could finally sit down a bit, it was going on 6:00. We would have loved to been able to sit and visit a while longer, and tried to unwind a bit, after all that had just happened, but knew what a drive we had ahead of us. We left the house around 7:40....stopped before leaving town to fill the car with gas...get sodas, ice, take that final pee break, and by the time we finally got out onto the highway, homeward bound, it was after 8:00. But, with the car running better, and a new trailer hitch, the ride home, even pulling the trailer with the bike, went much smoother than it did on our trip there, even though it did take us longer to get home, having to pull the trailer. We finally pulled into our house around 6am, on Tuesday morning. Lee was suppose to be at work at 9, but needless to say, he didn't make it. We were able to lay down and get some rest till about 11, and then I dropped Lee off at work a little before 1, and then I headed on to work myself. After work Tues., Kirk came over to help Lee unload the bike off the trailer, and then we headed over to Kirks to get a couch that needed to be taken to Landon's. We figured we needed to try and do that while we had access to the trailer, as we don't know anyone with a truck that we could use to get it out there at a later date. Landon fixed us supper, and we got back home, and finally to bed around midnight.
I wasn't suppose to go to work on Wed. till 1:00, but Rex changed the schedule a bit, and wanted to know if I'd switch some days. So, Wed. morning, I had to be at work at 7am, and then got off at 1:00. Luckily, I have today off, but have to go back to work Fri., going in a 7am again, and then again Saturday morning, from 8-12. I feel dead to the world, as I still don't feel like I'm caught up on my sleep from the weekend. Mary is off next week, mon-wed., so it's back to work again on Mon., Tues., and Wed., before my next day off.
Well, I promised myself, that after I dropped Lee off at work today, I WAS going to write this email, and let everyone know that I hadn't dropped off the face of the earth. I sure don't want to imply that we didn't enjoy our weekend with Lee's family in Indiana, of course, we did. But things were very very stressful while we were there, between the car, and other problems. It would have been much nicer, had things not been quite so tense!!!! There are several other issues that sure didn't do anything but add to the stress! But, it was good to see everyone. Cindy's daugher is getting married the 3rd. week on Oct. We may see if it's a possibility that we can go back up for that. I know that Cindy really wants us to. So, if at all possible, I'm sure we'll try. There is another wedding at the lake in a couple of weeks...more relatives, and Cindy, and Laura, are planning on coming down for that. So, we should get to see them then, hopefully.
Well, I'm going to head outta here. I've got stuff that has to be done today, and this afternoon, have to take Moriah in, and enroll her in school. So, before doing that, I've got to try and get some things done around the house. The trunk of the car is still full...never unloaded! lol
The puter will be on, and I'll be around, from time to time. It's so great to be back, and I hope you all had wonderful days, while I was away!
Much love,
Lev
